Please don’t shrug your shoulders & groan…..this is as important in your country as any other.

Last autumn Mohamed Kandeel, a physician and member of the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research – a partner of the World Health Organization (WHO) – published an article in which he argued for the….. legalization…. of the procedure widely called “female genital mutilation” (FGM).

His reasoning?  Because it is practiced by Muslim cultures throughout Africa and much of the Middle East, and the Muslim community, he noted, “is the second largest in the world.”

“In Egypt, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) remains a common practice against girls. Egypt’s new President Morsi has said he will not actively combat the practice.”

“Since it was outlawed in 1985, not a single case of female genital mutilation (FGM) has been prosecuted. According to research by FORWARD, the leading UK charity working against FGM, approximately 66,000 girls have been mutilated in the UK, and 24,000 girls under 16 in England and Wales could be at risk of FGM.”
